PRESS RELEASE            Sunday 02 March 2008

Berwyn Festival of Music, Art and Food – 16 to 18 May 2008

The second Berwyn Festival will be held from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 May 2008 in the village of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog at the head of the delightful Ceiriog Valley between Llangollen and Oswestry.

The festival uses locations throughout the village to allow musicians, artists and food producers to present the results of their talents, with the emphasis  on promoting the work of people and companies from the local area whenever possible.

The music festival is held mainly on Friday and Saturday nights and is based in the village’s Ceiriog Centenary Hall.  Friday night has a dancing orientated theme with the Herbert Spliffington Allstars and the Blues Collective providing blues/ jazz music to get the feet tapping and lift the soul, while on Saturday the music has a folk feel with Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies, Cloud Street and Lowri Evans providing their own unique singer songwriter views on the  full range of life’s events presented in a most superbly entertaining fashion.

In addition, there will be two music workshops for local school children in Llanarmon School, in which it is hoped to take some 70 to 90 children through aspects of song and explore making music through a “wacky” band.   Elsewhere, local young musicians will be given the opportunity of performing in the village hall to entertain those attending other Festival events.  This opportunity for upcoming local talent is a repeat of last year’s programme and is included because of the success seen since then by of some who took part last May.  For lovers of a more traditional form of Welsh music the Llansylin Choir will perform on Sunday 18 May in the village chapel.

Throughout the whole period of the Festival, artists will exhibit their creations in a variety of media in a number of village locations such as the hotels, church, chapel and hall.  Those attending the Festival will be able to take part in a variety of practical art workshops held each day.  These will include sessions on mosaics, ceramics, woodcraft, illustration and lace making.

The food festival will be held on Saturday 17 May and will present the produce of many local farms, firms, producers, purveyors, and processors.  There should be a mouth-watering array of cooked food and fresh raw ingredients.  Helpful sellers will advise on how to prepare and consume the produce in the most delightful manner.  There should be a range of both foods and drinks available.   On Sunday 18 May a Craft Fair will take the place of the food purveyors in the marquee, and new products will delight those attending.

Those attending the festival will find a variety of places to stay within the Ceiriog Valley from charming hotels, farmhouse B&Bs, cottages and even camping sites besides the beautiful river.  In addition, Festival goers will be able to sample the range of other activities in the valley such as mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, rambling, rock climbing or simply relaxing in the place David Lloyd George described as a “…little bit of Heaven on earth”.

Notes to editors:
